How to Make Your Own Embroidery Pattern Video...

is up on Craft! Thursday after work Natalie filmed me showing how to create your own embroidery pattern from a photo. This is the first time I have ever been filmed for anything, so please excuse the goofy, nervous rambling.

Yes, this is the same embroidery of Mikey that I started almost one year ago. What can I say, I have crafting ADD.

Let me know what you think. Also, please feel free to share any tips you may have for creating your own embroidery patterns.

Hi Dolin,

I found your blog through Olivia's on LJ, and I'm excited to read some of your archives.

This is not an embroidery pattern creation tip per se, but it's a tip nonetheless. When I receive catalogs for Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, etc (I only ever purchase things from them for friends who are registered with them for their weddings), I go through them for embroidery ideas. That way it's not a complete waste of paper. In the Williams-Sonoma spring issue, for example, I saw some pretty carrot and ladybug embroidered napkins, and it inspired me to make my own.

Oh, and PS, you did great on the video!

Found via CRAFt, love this video and your cute dog embroidery! I sure want to try to make a pic of my cat like this, thanks you so much for sharing!

Thank you all for your kind words!

Catherine what a great idea... I love hearing where people find their inspiration and what becomes of it.

Best,
Dolin

Thank you so much! Great, simple, instructions!

You did great! Thanks for sharing that with us.

Hi,
What kind of fabric did you use to trace onto when you placed fabric over the picture on the window that you copied on paper from an original photograph?
Does it matter what kind of fabric you use and can you embroider by machine or does it have to be hand embroidered?
